BOOK OF THE MONTH : Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
The culture of the West and the East is vastly different. When I first read this book, my initial thought wasn’t about how unfairly Harry was treated. Instead, I thought about how ungrateful Harry seemed. He was given a roof over his head and food to eat—the least he could do was some housework. Especially when he is rich and doesn’t contribute a dime!
With that cultural difference out of the way, I now see Harry as somewhat immature, but then again, he is only a child. Personally, I also prefer the movie version of Dudley, who, after enduring so much magical bullying, later becomes the bigger man and supports Harry.
Now that my rant is out of the way, let’s talk about the book itself: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This magical adventure introduces us to Harry, a boy who discovers on his eleventh birthday that he’s a wizard and has been accepted into the prestigious Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The story follows his journey into a world of spells, magical creatures, and unforgettable friendships, as he uncovers secrets about his family and faces the mysterious return of a dark wizard.
